Tampa airport not picked for 'Model Ports' program

Well, maybe we're the fourth-best model airport ... in Florida. Tampa International Airport was not among the 20 nationwide scheduled to share in the $40-million "Model Ports" program run by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando were selected based on volume of international arrivals. The idea is to improve the "entry experience" of foreign travelers, drawing on expertise from folks like Disney. The Travel Industry of America suggests this hint to calm crowds funneling through limited processing points: "Conceal unused booths to communicate to travelers that the airport has fully deployed its available resources."
