WellCare Health Plans Inc. is growing, despite the pressure of an unresolved federal investigation into its operations.
On Wednesday the Tampa managed care company is holding a job fair in New York City, trying to recruit Medicare sales reps for the next open enrollment season.
WellCare added more than 54,000 new Medicare members this year and plans further expansion in 2009. While the company has not commented on the government's inquiry, which became public six months ago, it has replaced its executive team and is cooperating with investigators.
Meanwhile, the business of handling Medicare and Medicaid plans for 2.3-million people demands more workers: WellCare, with 4,000 employees, has more than 270 job openings posted on its Web site, including one for a fraud investigator in Tampa.
