Walter Industries gets green with growth plans

Add Walter Industries to the list of local companies involved in the business of cutting greenhouse gases.

A system being installed at one of the Tampa company's Alabama coal mines will reduce the amount of methane by-product that is released into the atmosphere.

Walter isn't just in it for the environmental benefits, however. As part of a small-but-growing sideline in so-called carbon offsets, the company plans to sell its emission reductions on the open market.
