BlueCross flexes muscles to fight obesity in kids

The philanthropic arm of the state's biggest insurer wants to combat childhood obesity, and it is pledging $8-million to the effort. BlueCross BlueShield of Florida's foundation has launched a four-year effort that will involve funding research and local nonprofit agencies' activities, as well as fostering community collaboration. The Blue Foundation will carry its campaign to Tampa, as well as Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando and Tallahassee. Agencies and researchers will be invited to make proposals for funding by year end.
