Candidates to attend business luncheon

A "Meet the Candidates" forum featuring state legislative candidates will highlight the Largo/Mid-Pinellas Chamber of Commerce Business Luncheon on Tuesday, from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at Pinecrest Place, 1150 Eighth Ave., SW, Largo.

Participating in the program will be State Rep. Janet Long (D) and challenger Terry Sanchez (R) for House District 51; State Rep. Bill Heller (D) and challenger Ross Johnson (R) for House District 52; and State Rep. Jim Frishe (R) and challenger George Gonzalez (D) for House District 54. They will each have several minutes to address the audience followed by questions.

Cost: $15 for members; $20 for non-members.

Hospital, hospice add to inpatient initiative

Morton Plant Mease Health Care and the Hospice of the Florida Suncoast have announced an expansion of their inpatient palliative care initiative offered at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater to include Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor and Mease Dunedin Hospital. Palliative care combines the efforts of physicians, clergy and social workers to develop personalized care plans to be followed in conjunction with therapeutic treatment.

The program is the second recent partnership effort between Morton Plant Mease and the Hospice of the Florida Suncoast, In October 2007, the two care providers joined forces to offer clinical pastoral education, an interfaith professional education for clergy.

Vision plan provider names senior manager

Sean McCormick has been named marketing project manager for Advantica EyeCare, a vision care plan provider in Clearwater. Before the appointment, McCormick served as director of account services for Mind Inventions, St. Petersburg.
