Pasco Regional Medical Center in Dade City has received a top five-star rating for the quality of its general surgery by HealthGrades, the health care ratings company.
Pasco Regional Medical Center is ranked among the top 5 percent of hospitals in the nation for general surgery. The hospital also received the top rating for general surgery, appendectomy and cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal).
"This is the fourth consecutive year Pasco Regional Medical Center has ranked in the top 5 percent of hospitals nationally," said Stan Holm, chief executive officer.
These findings were included in the 11th annual HealthGrades Hospital Quality in America Study, which analyzed more than 41 million Medicare hospitalization records from 2005 to 2007 at the nation's approximately 5,000 non-federal hospitals.
According to the study, patients treated at the nation's top-rated hospitals have a 70 percent lower death rate compared with the lowest-rated hospitals across 17 common procedures and conditions, ranging from heart attack and pneumonia care to respiratory failure.
