Just in time for fall, pump prices are finally declining. Gas prices in Florida averaged $2.72 per gallon Monday, down from $2.74 per gallon a week ago, according to AAA, The Auto Club Group. Tampa Bay prices were even lower at $2.63 per gallon, down from $2.66 a week ago. Nationally, gas was $2.85 per gallon Monday.
Much of the drop is because of lower demand, said AAA spokesperson Mark Jenkins.
"Combining this autumn trend with the recent switch to a cheaper-to-produce winter blend gasoline, and prices at the pump could move even lower this fall," he said in a release.
Of course, when it comes to predicting gas prices, nothing is ever certain. U.S. sanctions against Iran, AAA said, along with economic challenges in Venezuela, could bring higher prices depending on how it affects crude oil supply.
