State gas prices poised to jump 10 cents over coming weeks

Higher gas prices are just a few days away, AAA The Auto Club Group predicts. State pump prices inched up to $2.55 a gallon, a two-cent climb over the week. Gas around Tampa Bay averaged $2.48 a gallon Monday, down from $2.50 a week ago.

"Gasoline demand has been very strong the past few weeks, as Americans travel for spring break," AAA spokesperson Mark Jenkins said in a release. "This robust gasoline demand, coupled with lower supply levels, are setting the stage for rising prices in the coming weeks."

Nationally, gas prices were $2.61 a gallon on average Monday. The next few weeks could bring as much as a 10-cent jump in prices, AAA said.
