Tampa Bay gas prices rocket 17 cents over a week

Floridians are paying plenty at the pump for a combination of spring gas prices and high oil prices this week. Gas jumped 11 cents per gallon over the week in Florida, averaging $2.74 per gallon Monday, according to AAA, The Auto Club Group. That’s the highest level in over three years.

Tampa Bay prices, meanwhile, rose a whopping 17 cents over the week with an average of $2.70 per gallon Monday.

"High oil prices are the main reason gasoline is so expensive right now," said Mark Jenkins, AAA spokesperson, said in a release. "The price of oil is about 25 percent more than last year, as what used to be a global supply glut is now tightening. Now the added expense for oil is making it more expensive to produce gasoline."

National prices were $2.76 per gallon on average Monday.
