Another Tampa Bay area Chevrolet dealership is going out of business, taking about 35 jobs with it.

Autoway Chevrolet of Tampa Bay, at 1700 Hillsborough Ave. E in Tampa, will close its showroom at the end of the week, parent company AutoNation announced Tuesday.

AutoNation said the decision came from General Motors and reflected slower sales. The parts and collision center will stay open at the Hillsborough Avenue location.

Two-thirds of the dealership's roughly 100 employees will retain their jobs. Some will consolidate with Autoway's Clearwater Chevrolet dealership.

"Most of the employees will be relocated to other opportunities," AutoNation spokesman Marc Cannon said.

The closing reduces AutoNation's presence in the Tampa Bay area from 14 to 13 stores. The company said it has no other plans to close stores in the area.

Autoway's shrinkage follows hard upon the dissolution of Bill Heard Chevrolet. Until it went out of business in September, Heard ran a large dealership in Plant City, one of 13 nationwide.
