'48 Pontiac Torpedo

After having served over three years in the Pacific during World War II, I discovered that new cars were hard to come by, due to the retooling of the auto factories from war machines back to passenger cars. After a year on a waiting list, (in 1948) I found this brand new '48 Pontiac Torpedo at a small dealer in a town just outside Chicago. I fell in love. It was jet black with lots of chrome options, leather interior and a spotlight. So I paid the guy the $1,800 he was asking for it (a good deal). It was a great car that I drove for five years.
