'40 Ford truck
My first car was a 1940 Ford truck, which I purchased at a St. Petersburg salvage yard for $40 in 1954. However, I had to remove a Crosley car that was stacked on the truck's rooftop before I could get it home to St. Pete Beach. I had to put in a new 6-volt battery, fill the tank with gas, and I was on my way. I mowed yards to pay for the truck and was in the first senior graduation class (1954) at the newly built Boca Ciega High School in Gulfport.
