My Favorite Car: 61 Volkswagen single cab, Patrick T. Maguire

'61 Volkswagen single cab

In 2003, Tulane University was about to relegate its football program to Division III and had not had a marching band in 25 years. In response, I restored a VW single cab in St. Petersburg, equipped it with a sound system, hauled it to New Orleans and began playing the TU fight song while rolling through the French Quarter, up St. Charles and around uptown on Tulane game days. The Krewe-of-Green-Wave-mobile now serves as the support vehicle for the TU marching band in the Krewe of Rex and Krewe of Thoth parades at Mardi Gras. The picture is of the 2012 Thoth parade on Magazine Street. In Rex last year, I was offered $20,000 for it. Answer: Sorry, she is priceless.
