'65 Ford Mustang
I was driving to work on the morning of Sept. 3, 1965, when I spotted her on the corner of Cleveland Street and Myrtle Avenue in Clearwater. She was sleek and very attractive. Her lines were different than any I had seen before. She sparkled in the sunlight. It was love at first sight. I thought about her all day and could hardly wait until the end of the workday so that I could go and see her again. I was dismayed upon my arrival at the local Ford dealer that the car of my dreams was nowhere to be found. Bold as I was, I went straight into the showroom and demanded to know where the new 1965 Mustang 2+2 Fastback that had caught my attention that morning had gone. I wanted it. I had to have it. Fortunately for me, it had not been sold, but was only on display at one of the local bowling establishments. The dealer had my dream car returned to the dealership for delivery to me. The total sales price including tax, tag, title and recording fee was $3,081.06. As stated on the window sticker: "Never before has a new car captured the imagination of the public so completely. With its smart European look and its exciting sports-car flair, the Mustang is a very personal car, yet as practical as a family car must be." Forty-seven years have passed since that was written in 1965. For me it still holds true today. My Mustang and I have been through a lot in all of those years, and she is still part of the family. I tried to treat her right, and although she may have disappointed me on a few occasions, my love for her has grown stronger with each passing year. I drive her almost every day and she now has over 240,000 miles on her. I still get emotional when some admirer pulls alongside and hollers "nice car!" I'm so glad that she is mine!
