My Favorite Car: '72 Ford Mustang, Rick Tschantz, 57, Odessa

'72 Ford Mustang

This was my favorite car because of the connection between the car, my father and me. I graduated from high school in 1972. My father was so proud that I "straightened up" and was headed to college that he offered to help me buy my first new car. We walked into the Ford dealership and there it was, highlighted on the showroom floor. Although he really couldn't afford it, I drove off in that car. During those days, fathers who served in World War II and sons with long hair didn't communicate too well. My father's financial sacrifice for this awesome new fastback Mustang, though, resonated with me for the rest of my life.
