Half-Scale Junior Dragsters
In 2006, my brother and I wanted to start racing go-karts, but my dad said it would be too dangerous. So he built Half-Scale Junior Dragsters for us to bracket race at Sunshine Dragstrip in Clearwater (now called ShowTime Dragstrip). We joined the National Hot Rod Association Junior Dragster Racing League, and after learning all of the safety rules, we began to race. I'll never forget my first trip down the track! This photo is my first and favorite car. It was a 2004 Harden chrome-moly frame, with a single-cylinder (3.5-inch piston) Rhino racing engine. I ran the ⅛ mile in 7.90 seconds after racing for five seasons. The dragster launched at 4,000 rpm and wound up to about 8,000 rpm at a top speed of 80 mph. It's a good family sport and I never had a scratch.
