TheStreet.com is giving a thumbs down to nearly 98 percent of Florida's banks.
Out of 293 Florida banks and thrifts rated by TheStreet based on second-quarter regulatory filings, only seven were assigned "recommended" ratings. None of the seven Florida banks that passed muster are in the Tampa Bay area.
In 2008 and so far in 2009, eight Florida banks and thrifts have failed, led by the May failure of BankUnited Financial of Coral Gables.
