If you have wind-only homeowner's insurance through Citizens Property Insurance and you have a shingle roof that's more than 25 years old or any roof that's more than 50 years old, you could lose your coverage if you don't replace your roof within six months.

That's according to new rules outlined Monday by state-backed Citizens. All of Citizens' 350,000 wind-only policies will expire as they come up for renewal, but most homeowners can qualify for a new policy.

Nearly 15,000 homeowners in Pinellas County and 6,600 in Pasco have wind-only Citizens policies Citizens is not increasing its rates, but some policyholders could pay more if they have to make improvements or want more coverage.

Wind-only policyholders are encouraged to contact their agent for specific information.

The new rules have no effect on Citizens 800,000 multi-peril policies or its condo policies.
