With foreclosures on the rise, JPMorgan Chase on Wednesday opened a second home loan modification center to help struggling homeowners in the bay area.
The center, at 4017 Crescent Park Drive in Riverview, complements the first walk-in counseling operation inside Chase's Fountain Square campus at 4919 Memorial Highway, Tampa. More than 20,000 homeowners trying to avoid foreclosure and rework their loans were counseled at the initial five centers opened in Florida last year, a large chunk of the 76,000 counseled nationwide. With the expansion, there are now 11 Florida centers.
Rocky Stubbs, the program's regional manager overseeing Florida and Georgia, said Chase considered opening centers in other Florida metros in this second round, but wanted to focus on where demand is strongest. Namely, south Florida and central Florida.
Chase and other lenders have faced complaints that some homeowners are erroneously receiving delinquency notices amid the surge in past-due loans. However, Stubbs said the number of complaints has fallen off dramatically this year since the bank created a foreclosure review team to independently audit different stages of the foreclosure process.
Borrowers struggling with a mortgage or those who believe they're wrongly being targeted as delinquent can schedule a meeting, but an appointment is not required. The centers are open Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call 1-866-550-5705 or go to www.chase.com/myhome for more details.
