TAMPA — After decades in banking and the past seven years running SunTrust Bank of Tampa Bay, Allen Brinkman is stepping down from his regional CEO position with plans to reinvent himself as an area technology executive.
He will join Tampa's Lumina Analytics, described as a big data analytics firm, as its president. The 2-year-old company provides risk management services to healthcare, financial services, defense and corporate and national security clients throughout the country, using publicly available data.
The company, located in downtown Tampa at 501 E Kennedy Blvd., was founded by Dr. Morten Middelfart, Lumina's chief data scientist, and Allan Martin, Lumina's CEO. Lumina states it is capitalized by its founders and Atlantic Merchant Capital Investors of Tampa.
SunTrust confirmed Brinkman's plans to leave the bank on Aug. 18 and join Lumina next month. A search will start to fill his job at SunTrust Tampa Bay, which covers the Atlanta-based banking company's business from the Tampa Bay metro area south to Naples. Until that person is named, the bank will be run by SunTrust's chief in the greater Orlando market, Scott Cathcart.
