Stock in Tampa's Walter Investment Management continues to fall

TAMPA — The carnage hasn't stopped yet for the stock of Tampa-based Walter Investment Management Corp.

After the mortgage banking firm saw its battered stock price tank by nearly 39 percent Tuesday, shares fell roughly 10 percent early Wednesday, before recovering some by mid-morning. As of about 11 a.m., shares were trading at $1.60 apiece, down about 3 percent.

The sell-off was triggered Tuesday after the company reported an annual loss of more than half a billion dollars.

The freefall has been dramatic. Four years ago, Walter shares traded in the mid-$40s. Eleven years ago it traded at more than $300 a share.
