Transamerica Life Insurance Co. is cutting 70 jobs in St. Petersburg, the national insurance provider disclosed in a layoff notice filed with the state this week.

Transamerica, part of the Dutch life insurance and asset-management giant Aegon N.V., said the cuts at its office at 570 Carillon Parkway would be spread between July 1 and Jan. 1, 2015. About half of the layoffs will take effect in July, based on a letter accompanying the layoff filing.

A company spokesman could not be reached for further details.
