Twenty-seven Florida banks have most-troubled ranking

Though profits in the banking industry have been rising, the cluster of troubled Florida banks at the bottom is having a hard time joining in the party.

Twenty-seven Florida banks received zero stars — the most troubled ranking on a scale of five stars — in the latest Bauer Financial ratings released Friday. Another three banks — including Lutz-based Heritage Bank of Florida — fell off the list because they failed and their assets were sold by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.

The quarterly index is little changed from last quarter when there were 29 zero-star banks.
