TAMPA — Bern's Steak House is set to break ground Tuesday on its long-awaited 137-room luxury boutique hotel, the Epicurean. Located across from the iconic Howard Avenue steak house, the hotel will have a restaurant, wine shop, rooftop lounge, full-service spa, bakery and pastry shop. The $32.5 million project will be marketed as part of Marriott's Autograph Collection. The Epicurean will be home to the annual Bern's WineFest and host cooking demonstrations, classes and wine exhibitions for beginner and experienced foodies. Bern's owner David Laxer proposed it as a ''condo hotel" several years ago but shelved the idea when the economy collapsed in 2008. Only a parking garage was built on the site just west of Bern's, 1208 S Howard Ave. The hotel is set to open in November 2013.
