While many families scrambled to find a brunch option that didn't have a line out the door and a long wait so mom could enjoy her special day earlier this week, a new posh eatery boldly entered the local market in time for its first Mother's Day buffet.
It wasn't just the long conga-line food offerings featuring everything from shrimp cocktail and Creme Brulee to potatoes diablo and an omelet station that spanned nearly the entire inside of The Bistro 60 that took people by surprise.
It was the location.
Adjacent to the Clarion Inn, sandwiched in between two car dealerships at 9331 E Adamo Drive, the Bistro 60 is situated halfway between Tampa and Brandon in a former Beef 'O' Brady's.
General manager Melissa Bathe greeted guests and informed them that moms could eat all they wanted for just $10. She said the curb appeal is next on their list of upgrades that started in 2014 when Clarion invested millions of dollars renovating the former Best Western.
"We are trying to improve our reputation," said Bathe, who also touted the large poolside stage, expansive enough for receptions or weddings that The Bistro 60 can cater.
If you missed the Mother's Day spread, and judging by the seats that were still available you might have, you can try the breakfast and brunch buffet that runs daily from 7 to 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $10 and guests who stay at the hotel receive a $9 voucher to apply toward the bill.
In addition to the buffet, that is accented with neon lighting and served on real dinnerware with silverware — no plastic forks and paper plates here — the Bistro 60 features an inside bar, a pool bar and a patio bar that opens weekends after 3 p.m. and during the week after 5 p.m. There are more than 16 big-screen televisions and more than a dozen semi-private booths.
According to morning supervisor Mercedes Kerry, the 150-seat restaurant is looking to open for dinner soon and feature high-end fish and steak entrees. Visit facebook.com/TheBistro60/ for updates and event list ings.
