As time runs down on the legislative session, the Seminole Tribe of Florida is promoting support from large business groups for the gambling deal tossed out by the state Supreme Court last year. The Florida Retail Federation, the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association and Florida United Businesses Association praised the gambling compact in a news release this week from a public relations firm for the Seminoles. The compact allowed Las Vegas-style slots and card games such as blackjack at tribal casinos including the Seminole Hard Rock in Tampa. It's unclear what deal, if any, will pass in the Legislature. A Senate bill would expand offerings for the Seminole casinos and the state's race tracks, while a House plan would allow only slot machines.
