Tampa staffing firm Kforce Inc. reported a 71 percent drop in third-quarter profits compared with a year ago, but grew both net income and revenue from the previous quarter.

The company posted net income of $2.3 million, or 6 cents per share, compared with $7.9 million, or 20 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Revenue was $228.3 million, down 9 percent from $250.9 million a year earlier.

Looking ahead, Kforce executives projected fourth quarter earnings of 6 to 8 cents per share on revenue in the range of $216 million to $221 million.

Results were announced after the close of market Tuesday.
