Compact fluorescent light bulbs are expensive. Are they really worth the cost?
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Energy say an Energy Star certified compact fluorescent light bulb will save about $30 over its life time, compared with an incandescent bulb.
Progress Energy estimates that a CFL can save up to $90 in electricity costs over its lifetime.
CFLs use 75 percent less energy and last up to 10 times longer, according to Energy Star.
