Daily Q&A: What can I do about telemarketers who delay saying who they are?

What can I do about the annoying telemarketers who try to lure you into their phone pitch by taking forever to tell you who they are and what they want?

There are laws regulating how telemarketers can solicit. If telemarketers call you and try to sell you products, the Federal Trade Commission requires them to tell you it's a sales call. They also must give you their names and the names of the companies they are working for — all before they begin making their pitch.

The FTC says, "If they don't, say 'no thanks,' and get off the phone."

Here are other FTC facts for consumers: www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/telemarketing/tel19.shtm.
