In reorganization, John Schueler joining Tampa Bay Partnership as chief operating officer

In a reorganization announcement made to its board Friday, the Tampa Bay Partnership said it has hired John Schueler as the regional economic marketing group's chief operating officer.

According to TBP chief executive officer Stuart Rogel, adding Schueler is part of a broader strategy to bring more marketing, communications and media resources to the partnership. Rogel said the reorganization will focus on three regional priorities: marketing, transportation and keeping the Tampa Bay Rays in this market as the team transitions out of Tropicana Field.

Schueler, 64, most recently served as an executive director of corporate development for the University of South Florida, a position that ended this summer. Previously, Schueler served as president of Florida Communications Group, the company that controlled Media General's Tampa operations, including WFLA-Ch. 8 and the Tampa Tribune before the newspaper was sold to another owner. Schueler starts his new job Tuesday.
