John Long, president and CEO of the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce, resigned Thursday saying he has accomplished most of his goals for the business group since relocating here in early 2006 from the regional chamber in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Long, who grew the St. Petersburg chamber's business membership to record numbers, says he will take some time to relax and may consider other economic development opportunities. He and wife Cindy plan to stay in the area. His last day is Aug. 2. Chamber board member Mary Lallucci, an executive with Right Management, will serve as interim chief at the chamber. Long's last day at the chamber is Aug. 2.
