Duke Energy hires economic development director for Florida

Duke Energy announced Tuesday that the utility has picked a new Orlando-based manager for the company's business and economic development programs.

John Fremstad joined Duke after spending the past decade as the vice president of KBR Building Group-Florida and vice president of the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission.

Fremstad also led such notable Central Florida projects as the recruitment or construction of the Sanford Burnham Institute for Medical Research, University of Florida Research and Academic Center, JetBlue University, Electronic Arts, and the schools of medicine and interactive entertainment at the University of Central Florida.

Through its business development programs, Duke Energy partners with local, regional and state economic development organizations. Duke's business development team also recruits large national and international companies to its service areas, which includes Florida and five other states.
