The Atomic Safety and Licensing Board Panel will hold two public hearings Jan. 12 for public comment on concerns about groundwater contamination from the planned Levy County nuclear plant.
The panel, a division of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, will hear oral and written statements about the potential impact of the two nuclear reactors Progress Energy Florida plans to build within the next 10 years. In order for the $20 billion project to move forward, Progress must receive the NRC's approval for an operating license, which is currently under review.
Public hearings will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Plantation Inn, 9301 W Fort Island Trail in Crystal River.
