A St. Petersburg car wash is set to become the first business to receive a rebate check — about $10,300 — for installation of a commercial solar system when Progress Energy makes the presentation next week.
Anderson Ventures installed a 10-kilowatt solar PV system at its Sparkle Self Service Car Wash in the 3700 block of 34th Street S in St. Petersburg.
The company is one of 22 commercial businesses that will receive an average rebate of $48,330 this year.
Steve Anderson, owner of Anderson Ventures, said the solar system is projected to reduce his electric bill, which averages about $630, by approximately 33 percent each month.
In March, Progress Energy began offering rebates to residential customers who installed solar systems. The commercial and residential programs are part of the utility's SunSense program, which seeks to conserve energy.
