Residential electric utility customers again gave a big thumbs down to Progress Energy Florida and Tampa Electric, two power companies with the lowest customer satisfaction ratings in the South based on the 2011 J.D. Power survey released Wednesday.
Of 13 large electric utilities serving southern customers, Progress Energy Florida ranked dead last with a score of 612 on a 1,000-point scale. Tampa Electric ranked slightly better but was still second worst on the southern utility rankings with 617 points. The average point score for southern utilities was 643.
In contrast, Progress Energy Carolinas, part of the same company as Progress Energy Florida, received 654 points — 42 points higher than its Florida operation — and ranked third from the top among the 13 southern utilities.
