About 100 Tampa Electric workers traveled to Arkansas on Thursday to help ensure any loss of power is quickly restored following a severe winter storm expected to hit the Midwest.
Tampa Electric, a subsidiary of TECO Energy, sent a crew of 30 contractors, 40 linemen and 30 support personnel at 6 a.m. for an assignment expected to last up to two weeks.
Duke Energy Florida does not have immediate plans to send employees to Arkansas but did give 100 contract distribution line workers permission to assist with restoring power lost by the storm.
Duke is a member of the Southeastern Electric Exchange, or SEE, a network of utilities that pledges mutual assistance in case of storm or other emergency. Crews supporting restoration efforts are paid by the host utility.
