TAMPA — A power outage near Waters Avenue and the Veterans Expressway affected about 5,000 customers, Tampa Electric said Friday morning. Power was restored at about 10:30 a.m.
The outage appeared to be the result of an equipment failure at the company's Patterson Road substation. The cause was not known. The company was switching customers to an alternate energy source.
An hour before the outage, Tampa Electric had sent a press release noting its success meeting customers' demands during a record-setting day of power usage Wednesday.
