In a victory for closely held Bright House Networks, Tampa Bay's major cable provider, and other cable companies, the Federal Communications Commission voted Monday to stop Verizon Communications from trying to talk its customers out of switching to another telephone provider while they wait for their phone numbers to be transferred. The cable companies, which also offer phone service, filed a complaint against Verizon in February. The skirmish is the latest chapter in an ongoing marketing war raging in the Tampa Bay area. Cable operators and the phone company are in a feeding frenzy to snag customers from each other in packages bundling Internet access, cable TV and phone services. Bright House Networks and Verizon have squabbled often over complaints of deceptive ad pitches that omitted key facts.
