A Winter Park software company received the second-biggest venture investment in the nation in the first quarter of 2008. Highwinds Network Group closed on a $55-million investment from General Catalyst Partners and Alta Communications to fund development of its content delivery network offering. Three Tampa Bay area companies also received venture capital in the first three months: Tampa's Acclaris and Skyway Software and Lifestyle Family Fitness in St. Petersburg. Nationwide, $7.1-billion was invested in 922 deals in the first quarter, down slightly from the previous quarter.
