Florida will get $3.5-million from a $58-million settlement announced Tuesday between 30 states and Merck & Co. The agreement ends a multistate investigation into Merck's promotion of Vioxx, which was pulled off the market in 2004. Florida's share of the settlement may be used for consumer education or litigation. A separate $4.85-billion settlement by Merck with consumers who used the painkiller Vioxx is pending.
