Florida warns against scam e-mails from 'Electronic Federal Tax Payment System'

If you find an e-mail in your in-box from the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System, don't reply to it, click any links or open attachments — it's a scam.

That's the warning from Alex Sink, the state's chief financial officer.

The e-mail directs recipients to a bogus website containing malicious software, known as malware, that infects the intended victim's computer.

"The IRS and the Financial Management Service (the Treasury bureau that owns EFTPS) does not communicate payment information through e-mail," Sink notes in her recent newsletter.
