Dr. Natalie Ellis, a board-certified holistic family physician, recently opened her practice, Holistic Equilibrium, at 8255 Commercial Way, Weeki Wachee.

Ellis specializes in integrative holistic medicine and treatment of skin disorders. Originally from Florida, she has practiced in Virginia, North Carolina and Key West while serving in the Navy as a general medical officer. In 2006, after her discharge from the Navy, she worked in private practice with a dermatologist before finishing her residency training in family medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Va.

Ellis has an extensive background in natural therapies and incorporates them into standard family medicine treatments. As a primary care doctor, she sees people of all ages, including pediatrics, adult internal medicine and routine gynecologic care.

The Hernando Builders Association Spike Club has awarded Donald Van Slee, a 2011 graduate of Central High School, the club's annual scholarship. Van Slee plans to attend Pasco-Hernando Community College in the fall and work toward a construction/business degree.

Nerilyn Smith of Spring Hill was recently awarded the 2011 Avon Representative Scholarship from the Avon Foundation for Women.

Smith will be attending Pasco-Hernando Community College. The scholarship is designed to assist independent Avon sales representatives who are enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate course of study leading to a degree in a field that allows them to advance their careers.

Get Healthy — Brooksville Natural Foods, 1254 Broad St., Brooksville, will host a Get Healthy Pet Day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today.

The Hernando County Chamber of Commerce Training Committee will offer the coaching series "Your Life: Happiness is the Key to Your Success" from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. beginning Monday and continuing Mondays until Aug. 15. The purpose of the course is to review the fundamentals of Microsoft Excel. The class will be conducted in a workshop format with heavy emphasis on hands-on practice.
