Vendor spaces are available for Hernando Marketplace: Live, Shop & Play, presented by the Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce and the Hernando County Parks and Recreation Department.

The family-friendly event, which is open to the public, is designed to showcase Hernando County businesses and services. It will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 7 at Anderson Snow Park, 1360 Anderson Snow Road, Spring Hill. Admission is free.

The booth fee for businesses and nonprofit groups is $75 for chamber members and $100 for nonmembers. The fee for restaurants and food vendors is $125 for chamber members and $150 for nonmembers.

Businesses that are child-oriented are invited to participate in the Kids Zone. For those who provide an activity, demonstration or giveaway for children, the registration fee will be waived.

Sponsors and anglers are being sought for the fourth annual Hogan Law Firm Charity Fishing Tournament to benefit HPH Hospice.

The event begins at 7 a.m. April 14 at Bayport Park. The fishing ends at 3 p.m., and an awards banquet and silent auction will follow.

The Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce, the Kiwanis Club of Brooksville, through its foundation, and the Kiwanis Club of Spring Hill will recognize Hernando County graduating students at the 38th annual Student Recognition Banquet at 6 p.m. April 26 at the Palace Grand, 275 Della Court, Spring Hill.

Sponsorship opportunities are available, and the chamber will be awarding several scholarships with funds generated from sponsorship contributions.

Gold Table sponsorships are $750 and include recognition in the event program, the chamber newsletter and on the sponsor board; sponsorship of two students and guests; four tickets to the event; and recognition as a scholarship fund contributor.

Silver Table sponsorships are $500 and include recognition in event program, the chamber newsletter and on the sponsor board; sponsorship of two students and guests; and four tickets to event.

The Small Business Development Center at the University of South Florida and the Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce have partnered to provide free consultations to small businesses and entrepreneurs in Hernando County.

Who's news

Dr. Michael W. Higgins of Hernando Orthopaedic & Spinal Surgery was recently certified to perform MAKOplasty partial knee replacements, using the RIO Robotic Interactive Arm.

Higgins completed all clinical training requirements, was the first orthopedic surgeon in Hernando County to be certified and was the first to complete a MAKOplasty RIO assisted knee replacement at Brooksville Regional Hospital.

MAKOplasty is a robotic arm-assisted partial knee resurfacing procedure designed to relieve the pain caused by joint regeneration due to osteoarthritis.

George Pallay, a cable technician for Wilson Technology Group in Brooksville, has passed his Building Industry Consulting Services International technician certification.

Certified technicians undergo both written and hands-on testing of the proper installation of cabling systems. Also tested is knowledge of industry codes, standards and best practices.

Pallay joined Wilson in September 2010. He has more than 16 years experience in cabling. He lives in Brooksville with his family and is a volunteer and youth leader at Hillside Community Baptist Church.

Robert McClusky and his wife, Michelle, have opened A Basket of Gifts, a gift and novelty store, at 12456 Spring Hill Drive, in the Herald Square Plaza, Spring Hill.

The third annual Chick-fil-A Leadercast will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 4 at Pasco-Hernando Community College's Spring Hill Campus, 450 Beverly Court, Spring Hill.

Chick-fil-A Leadercast, in partnership with the Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce, is a one-day development event broadcast live from Atlanta to hundreds of sites throughout the nation.

Speakers for this year's event include: Soledad O'Brien, Tim Tebow, Patrick Lencioni, John Maxwell, Angela Ahrendts, Roland Fryer, Urban Meyer, Andy Stanley, Sheena Lyengar and Marcus Buckingham.

The event is open to the public. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Tickets are $69 for chamber members, $79 for nonmembers and $59 for nonprofit organizations.
