The doctors and staff at Ackley Dental Group, 1530 Pinehurst Drive, Spring Hill, recently celebrated their 30th anniversary with dinner at Glen Lakes Country Club. The night included a collection of photos of current and former staff members as well as reminiscences of the past 30 years. Ackley Dental Group opened its doors in May 1981.

USA Tree Service and the Hernando County Foster Parents Association have extended to June 30 the deadline for donations for the summer extravaganza to benefit local foster children.

The group hopes to raise money to provide 60 foster children with tickets to a Tampa Bay Rays baseball game, plus ballpark food. If finances permit, other summer events will include visits to the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary, Congo River Miniature Golf, Stop and Play, Fun Zone, a movie and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz at Stage West Community Playhouse.

The Small Business Development Center at the University of South Florida has partnered with the Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce to provide free business consultation to local small businesses and entrepreneurs.

Small business owners and entrepreneurs seeking assistance will have access to all of the center's services, including free one-on-one business counseling, free entrepreneurial training workshops, low-cost entrepreneurial training seminars, the Business Resource Center and custom corporate training.

The center offers business consultation in many areas, including starting a business, Internet marketing, business taxes and government contracting. It is an accredited organization that is funded partly through the Small Business Administration.

The center's Hernando office is at the chamber office, 15588 Aviation Loop Drive, south of Brooksville. To schedule a counseling session, call the chamber at (352) 796-0697.

Who's news

Registered nurse Jennifer Manner has been promoted to nursing director of the progressive care unit at Oak Hill Hospital, 11375 Cortez Blvd., Spring Hill. Manner, a progressive care certified nurse, had been clinical educator/coordinator in the unit since October 2009.

Manner came to Oak Hill in September 2004 from Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, Md. She has an associate's degree in nursing from Anne Arundel Community College in Maryland and an associate's degree from Central Florida Community College in Lecanto. She is pursuing a bachelor's degree in nursing from Chamberlain College of Nursing in Chicago.

Registered nurses Maria Pannozzo and Idelle Ahrar, of Oak Hill Hospital's progressive care unit, have passed the progressive care certified nurse certification. The exam was administered by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.

Dr. Kristen Witfill, dermatologist with Bay Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery, 1130 Commercial Way, Spring Hill, recently completed advanced training in facial cosmetic fillers. Along with other cosmetic procedures, Witfill is one of the few advanced injectors of SculptraAesthetic in the Tampa Bay area.

The Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce Training Committee will offer a manager/supervisor professional development training series. Workshops will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and will cover topics for managers, supervisors or anyone pursuing a career in a management or supervisory role.

Topics and dates include "Conflict Management and Change," Monday and June 27; "Motivation," Aug. 22 and 29; "Delegation," Sept. 12 and 19; and "Performance Management," Oct. 17 and 24.
