Largo/Mid-Pinellas Chamber award nominations due Friday

Chamber Seeks Award Nominations by Friday: The Largo/Mid-Pinellas Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for its Citizen of the Year and Mac Norcross Small Business Person of the Year awards. Presentations be at the chamber's 58th annual meeting Sept. 17 at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort, 1160 Gulf Blvd., Clearwater.

Citizen of the Year nominees have focused attention on the Largo/Mid-Pinellas region through their direct efforts that have generated acclaim or public notice; have outstanding achievement in community service; and have performed volunteer (uncompensated) services to the community.

Mac Norcross Small Business Person of the Year nominees must own a locally operated independent or franchised business with 50 or fewer full-time employees and be an active member of the chamber. A commitment to the community, as demonstrated by contributions of personal time and/or resources, and a proven commitment to local entrepreneurship/small business must be demonstrated.

Largo/Mid-Pinellas Chamber Annual Meeting on Tap: The 58th annual meeting will be Sept. 17 at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort. The breakfast event begins with coffee and registration at 7:30 a.m. followed by the program from 8 to 9:30 a.m.

It will include a review of the chamber's 2009/10 milestones, a look at what's ahead, and the presentation of the organization's annual awards including its Citizen of the Year, Small Business Leader and Silver Hammers. A salute to outgoing chamber officers and recognition of its new leadership will be featured as well.

Cost is $35 a person with tables of eight available for $260 (a savings of $20). Place reservations in advance with a credit card by calling the chamber at (727) 584-2321.

SCORE Business Counseling Available at Chamber: The chamber hosts business counseling services provided by SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) at it offices by appointment every first and third Thursday monthly. SCORE counselors represent working and retired business executives who volunteer their lifetime experience providing assistance for people looking to start a business and for owners/managers of existing businesses. There is no cost involved. Counseling appointments can be made only by calling (727) 584-2321.

    TV ratings service Nielsen will begin tracking how many people watch network TV on YouTube and Hulu to gauge how many viewers broadcast networks have through streaming, the company announced Tuesday.
