Responding to the FDA's warning this week, Publix supermarkets has voluntarily pulled fresh jalapeno peppers and products like salsas made with fresh jalapenos from its stores. The recall also applies to Publix's casual dining chain, Crispers. On Monday, federal health officials said a Mexican-grown jalapeno at a Texas distributor was found to be contaminated with the strain of salmonella that has affected more than 1,200 people since April. The FDA previously believed tomatoes were the cause of the outbreak, but have since lifted that warning.
