Garage closing; Mazzaro's buys property
After 25 years, Dave's Suncoast Auto Repair at 3153 22nd Ave. N is closing. Mazzaro's Italian Market, about a block away, has snapped up the property. "Business has been terrible. We can't afford to put any more money into it," said Volley Martin, who owns the business with his wife, Carla Diakos, daughter of the founder. At age 65, he said he's ready to retire. The Cuccaro family, which owns Mazzaro's, paid $300,000 for the property. "We bought it as an investment," said Kurt Cuccaro. "We will lease it to another business." He has been approached by several parties, including one who wants to open a used car lot and another with a flooring business. But wouldn't folks love a drive-through Mazzaro's deli more? "In the future it might be exciting to do something for us with the property," Cuccaro said.
