Bay area home prices drop yet again

Tampa Bay area home prices fell 2.6 percent in December and hit their lowest level since peaking in early 2006, according to a Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller 20-city home price index released Tuesday.

The bay area and 10 other cities — Atlanta; Charlotte, N.C.; Chicago; Detroit; Las Vegas; Miami; Portland, Ore.; New York; Phoenix; and Seattle — hit their lowest levels since home prices peaked in 2006 and 2007, the index showed.

Nationally, home values are down 4.1 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2009, the report said. In December, only two regions, San Diego and Washington, D.C., showed year-over-year gains.
