Warning signs
Experts say there's really nothing anyone can do to prepare for a sinkhole like the one Thursday night in Seffner. But there are warning signs:
• Gradual localized ground settlement
• Doors and windows failing to close properly
• Cracks in a foundation or steps
• A circular pattern of ground cracks outlining the sinking area
• Cloudiness in local well water due to sediment washing into the limestone's pores
