ST. PETERSBURG — The owners of Five Bucks Drinkery recently opened Tamiami, a bar that aims to nod to St. Peterburg’s history, at 269 Central Ave., the location of the former Crowley’s. The bar is named after the old St. Petersburg hotel and former bar on First Avenue N that Josh Connell, one of the owners of Five Bucks Drinkery, said used to be one of his favorites until it closed.
"I always had a love for the name and the old St. Petersburg," he said. "We had to bring it back. St. Petersburg is changing so much, I don’t think anyone remembers what the old St. Petersburg was like."
Connell said the bar features memorabilia that will spur conversation about history but will still have a casual vibe.
"Before St. Pete started going the direction it was going, it was a casual, laid back place, and I think we’re starting to lose some of that casual, laid-backness."
